Wash and Go Summer

Written on June 10, 2015

Summer is here yippee yay!!! With summer comes my craving for the wash and go life. I have been trying to do protective styles, but every few days, I find myself researching youtubers that wash and go especially Type 4s. As you can see from my previous post, it is tedious trying twist and bantu knot outs that don’t work or turn out as expected. I just feel like, I wasted parts of my life lol. Plain updos are my go to protective style,  but can be boring after a while. I like that with wash and go styles, i can be loose and then pack it up into an updo or puff if i so desire without doing any prep first. But yeah those tangles made me take pause.

Anyhow, I was chatting with my friend about hair and she was like why are combs bad again, if you keep getting tangles? My answer was breakage and i think I have also heard that it affects your curl definition. But then I decided to research and like everything natural hair, I see that there are people who rock wash and gos that use combs to detangle. That being said, they don’t have my exact hair…so once again it’s experiment time.

This wash:

-set timer for 1hr

-sprayed my hair with water, then added lots of tresemme naturals conditioner, used my hercules sageman comb to comb through each of the 4 sections. Then moved to shower where I rinsed and then shampooed with camille rose naturals come clean. I used a shampoo because I wanted to make sure I completely washed out or got rid of the shea moisture biolipid complex leave in i tried out in my last post. Ideally, I only want to use commercial shampoos every 4-8 weeks, when I do my aphogee protein treatments.

-applied clay rinse. experimenting with coconut vinegar (CV) which was $5.99 at vitamin shoppe. (clay plus 1 part coconut vinegar plus 2 parts water). clay sat while i showered, then rinsed. The bottles of CV are small so I plan to dilute it even more next wash.

-This next step may be a game changer. I read Dubaidee4c’s comments about characteristics of HIGH porosity hair and it fit me, which is weird cos all this while i though i was LOW porosity, so I decided to try spritzing my hair in the shower with half aloe vera juice, half water prior to putting my gel (KCCC). Wow, already impressed with the wet look, can’t wait to see the dry look. May finally be closer to that root to tip definition than I imagined!

UPDATE: June 12

So of course I started the post on June 10, and didnt post dry results. So here is what’s left of that hair today.  So I guess day 3 of my june 10 hair wash. At night I had the hair in a pineapple and then spritzed with aloe water. So while the pineapple stretched my hair, the spritz shrunk it. So not sure what I will do about that. Today is a quick wash. It was supposed to be just a water wash, but I couldn’t resist a clay rinse. 🙂 then sprayed my aloe water, put a little bit of oil, then my diluted gel.

  1. I understand your struggles. I am tired of protective styles and I just want to leave my hair as it is ( wash and go). Besides I work out a lot and need to wash my hair frequently. I have been experimenting with wash and go lately. I find that using a diffuser cuts down on the tangles. Also found out that ACV rinses help a lot too.. I am still trying to figure out how to preserve the curls for more than two days without using water. I think I am going to try naptural85’s method.
